I found this on the web, official how to reassemble a CS-144
NOTE that there appear to be a number of different models,
I don't know what the minor differencees are.
2 weeks ago my 93 ZR-1 started making noise that one observer felt was
the rebuilt alternator I had installed 150 miles ago
I just removed the fan belt and initially noted that the alternator was
Upon closer inspection I found out:
Marc, George, Rick, ...
I figured out what the problem is:
The alternator fan blades are scraping against the front of the
alternator housing as one can see from the picture.
Now that I think about it, when Autozone delivered the replacement
alternator it had the L-98 pulley on it and we swapped pullies insted of
rejecting it as I never thought that GM would make such a subtle
difference in alternators among models,
BUT apparently they do as when I looked for C4 Corvette alternators
there were different ones for many of the years,
Thank you GM :-(
Now the fan has one or more broken blades, and I need a special s
shaped 15/16" (or 24mm) wrench to get the fan blade off without removing
the alternator, if that is a possible solution.
Hopefully there is a special shim or such to make for appropriate fan
What a F..king PITA for a part that should be standard, ...
Is there anyone who knows what the difference between the L98 & LT-5
alternators is ???
